Oscar Baldwin Symco Pioneer
Came to County In 1856, when Food Was Carried on Foot From Northport to Union
In the death of Oscar Baldwin at his farm home at Symco, Jan. 30, that village lost one of its hardy pioneers who came from Sheboygan county to town of Union, with his parents in 1856, when a lad of only six summers.
The funeral was held Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Methodist church at Symco, Rev. F.W. Wright, officiating. Interment was in Symco cemetery.
Besides the widow, four sons and two daughters are left to honor his memory. They are Homer of Manawa, Joseph of Symco, Willard of Symco, Earl Baldwin, Appleton; Mrs. Clarence Wooley of Gurnee, Ill.; Mrs. George Caldwell of Maple Heights, Ohio; one brother, Byron Baldwin of Symco, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Beach of Symco and Mrs. Captola Kretchmer of Little River; sixteen grandchildren, and many other relatives survive this sturdy pioneer and honored citizen. Asa Beach of this city is a nephew of deceased, and went to attend the last rites.
