Sarah Strain was the daughter of David and Elizabeth Strain. She was born in 1752 while her father was in Hanover Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He had been on the same plot prior to 1752 (to 1783) so I suspect she was born there, like her siblings. She married John Wilson at unknown date and place.

In Oct 1779 John purchased land in Saint Thomas Township, Franklin Co., PA and the deed says "John Wilson, of Derry Twp., Lancaster Co., PA." Derry was very close to Hanover Twp., and probably where they met. There were many Wilsons there.

They had 10 known Wilson children:
Elizabeth, 1774 (John James Shields), below
Moses, 1781, below
David, 1784, below
"Florence," 1787/1790 to 1855 (Matthew Patton, died before 1855)*
John, 1791, below
James, 1791, below
William, 1794, below
Sarah, 1795, below
Robert, 1803, below
Alexander, 1804, below

I immediately realized it was the right Mrs. John Wilson, when I saw among her children's names: John, Alexander, David, Elizabeth and William, just like Sarah's Strain siblings. Her father David "Strean's 1783 will only listed her as Mrs. John Wilson. After her father died in 1783, her mom used the surname "Strain" and so did all of Sarah's siblings.

In "The Wilson Family," Hon W. Rush Gillan described his personal experiences and knowledge of the John and Sarah (Strain) Wilson family and farm. He lived on their many adjoining farms. He quotes a court case from 1830 (The case is reported in 7 Watts and Sergeant, page 111. It was argued May term 1843.) where the John & Sarah Strain log house was described. Next they built a new brick home in 1848, next to the old one but it was not used for 17 years until a fire burned down the old log home. The the Kittochtinny Historical Society, Papers Read Before the Society, From March, 1905 - to February, 1908, Chamberburg, PA, 1908, p 200 - 222 (see photo of p 203).

She died in her family home in Saint Thomas Township, PA and has 2 gravestones here. One is a large flat slab and the other is a standing headstone, with her age and other data below.

Extracts of Franklin County Cemeteries, from the Journals of Josiah V. Thompson, 1926, Vol. 17, buried in Rocky Spring Cemetery, # 292, "Reading right to left with parents in center in a rail enclosed lot, all big flat slabs:" Sarah Wilson our mother, July 1, 1848 aged 96 years 5 mos (sic) 26 days.

The 2nd set of grave photos show her data clearly. Based on this death date, 1 Jul 1848 and full age at death, 96 yr, 3 mo & 26 dys, she was born on Monday, 5 Mar 1752. Note: the 3 in John's death date matches the 3 in her months of age. Above, Thompson and other sites have different dates. Only "JOHN AND SARAH WILSON" is legible on the large slab. It is unknown if there was anything else engraved on it.

Sarah died on 1 July 1848. The Wilson family estate consisted of "16 farms and 2 tracts of Timberland in St. Thomas Twp., 6 in Hamilton Twp. and 1 farm in Greene Twp."

See page 203 herein includes: "Another daughter of John and Sarah Wilson married Matthew Patton. He died before his wife, and after his death Mrs. Patton returned to her home, where she died childless in 1855, aged 68 years."

Sarah appears to have outlived all of her siblings, based on what we believe.
