Lloyd "Duke" Davenport was born June 5, 1911 at Catching Creek near Myrtle Point and died Aug. 4, 1992 of leukemia at his home in Myrtle Point.
His parents, Albert R. and Amy Goble Davenport lived on the family farm on Catching Creek since 1904. He attended Twin Oaks and Myrtle Point schools and Oregon State University. He was a dairy farmer most of his life and was active in many farming organizations.
He was a director of the Coos County Fair Board for 35 years, serving as president for eight years. He enjoyed working with young people, both family and 4-H members. He and his wife Jean having served as leaders of the Twin Oaks 4-H club for 44 years. He married Jean Guerin on Sept. 20, 1935 at Ashland.
He is survived by his wife Jean Davenport of Myrtle Point; daughter Shirley Melvin of Brants Pass; three granddaughters, five great-granddaughters; brothers, Albert Davenport of Myrtle Point, and Ernest Davenport of McMinnville; sisters, Bernice (Herbert) Haughton of Los Gatos, Calif., Dolores (Franklin) Larsen of Myrtle Point, Audrey (Leland) Holt of Grants Pass, Lois (Arthur) Jensen of Huntington Beach, Calif., Lila (Robert) Ocheltree of Myrtle Point; sister-in-law Hilda Davenport, (widow of brother, William) of Myrtle Point, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rodney and Harold Davenport and a sister, Mary Garcelon.
