WINONA E. TEATER
Winona Edith Teater, daughter of Matthew and Sarah Mackey, was born April 24, 1883, near Bethlehem, and departed this life Dec. 2, 1951, aged 68 years, 7 months and 8 days.
She was united in marriage July 8, 1903 to Walter A. Teater, and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Wretha Blue of Russell, with whom she lived after the death of her companion in April 1950. In this home she was lovingly and tenderly cared for through all her suffering.
Most of her life was spent on the farm south of Russell, where they established their home. She was a teacher in the rural schools of Lucas and Wayne counties for more than ten years - a calling she dearly loved.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior in early girlhood, and united with the Baptist church at Bethlehem. She had a strong faith in her Lord, always taking an active part in religion wherever she was. Their home was often opened to religious services of the neighborhood, and will always be remembered as a Godly home.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, a sister, Mrs. Nettie Aston, and a brother, John W. Mackey.
Living members of the family are Mrs. Daisy Gookin of Ottumwa, Robert Mackey of Jones City, Oklahoma, James E. Mackey of Corydon, Mrs. Goldie Spencer of Knoxville, Mrs. Pearl Latham of Russell, Mrs. Sadie Stafford of Waterloo, and Edgar Mackey of Los Angeles, Calif.
She leaves to mourn - many relatives and friends, and will be greatly missed. She bore her suffering patiently, never doubting "He doeth all things well."
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Donald Brong and Rev. A. E. Beals, at the Baptist church in Russell, on Wednesday December 5, and interment was made in the Russell Cemetery.
The Boy's Quartet, composed of Dee Wright, Dayton Kendall, Dean Swartz and Jimmy Werts, and accompanied by Wanda Frye, furnished the music. Pallbearers were former neighbors: Howard Vincent, Linden Allard, Carl Cottrell, Joy White, Ustel Mason and Chester McKinley. Pauline Vincent was flower bearer.
