A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nell Thompson Ray who survives, and the son of Mr. Crawford M. Ray and Mrs. Nancy Hughes Ray, both deceased. He was retired from Cone Mills after 45 years of service. He was a member of Haw River United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, the United Methodist Men and the Administrative Council.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Jerry "Duke" Ray and Mr. Danny Ray, both of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Roney of Haw River; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. Haywood Ray, Mr. Ben Ray, Mr. Clyde Ray and Mr. Crawford Ray.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Thursday at Haw River United Methodist Church by Dr. Roderic L. Mullen, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
