He was admitted to the bar in 1904, commenced the practice of law in Munich, North Dakota and was a member of the State House of Representatives, 1907 to 1911. From 1911 to 1913, he was Lieutenant Governor, State Attorney of Williams County, 1913 to 1915 and Assistant US District Attorney for North Dakota, 1929 to 1932. In 1935, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1945. He was again elected in 1949, to the Eighty-first Congress and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1959. US Congressman Quentin N. Burdick, was his son. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
