Obituary of Joseph John Nicklaus
Joseph John Nicklaus, son of Joseph Nicklaus and Anna nee Ostendorp, was born on October 12, 1903, at Parkersburg, Iowa, and passed away at his home very suddenly from a heart attack late Saturday evening, August 27, having reached the age of 56 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
He attended elementary and high school in Parkersburg, graduating from the Parkersburg high school in 1922.
On June 2, 1928, he was united in holy matrimony with Mary Ann Hersey at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with one son, Harley.
He had spent most of his life in the plumbing business. From 1937 to 1950 he had been in partnership in the Smith-Nicklaus Plumbing business here in Parkersburg. Because of his ill health, this partnership was dissolved and since that time has been doing maintenance work at the Borden Soy Processing Company at Waterloo.
He, together with his wife and son, was baptized into the Christian faith on March 6, 1952 and became a member of Bethel Lutheran Church by Confirmation on April 6, 1952.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his son, Harley, of Waterloo, Iowa, his mother, Anna Nicklaus of Parkersburg, two brothers, Harm Nicklaus and Ernest Nicklaus, both of Parkersburg, and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Ralph.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 1960 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran church, Parkersburg, Iowa with the Rev. Russell W. Schilling, officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Engelkes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, Iowa.
Pall bearers were Fred Eilers, Jack Smith, Carl Patterson, Carl Siems, Edward Johnson, and Forrest Holland.
