RETIRED FRANKLIN PHYSICIAN. BUSINESS MAN, AGE 75. DIES

Dr. Lyman Edward Ott, age seventy-five, retired physician and business man of Franklin, died late Friday at the family home here. Funeral services will be held at the home Monday at 10 a. m. Dr. Ott had been in declining health the last winter, suffering from heart disease, but after being confined to his bed for several months improved and was able to walk about A week ago he suffered a severe heart disease attack, and his strength had gradually failed. For the last eighteen years he had spent his winters in Daytona Beach, Fla., with the hope of improving his condition.

Dr. Ott was born at Rockville June 29, 1854.

He was the son of John and Susannah Shuey Ott, and was one of a family of twelve children.

As a young man he attended Bloomingdale Academy, and was graduated from Wabash College in 1879. He was a Phi Delta Theta and had the distinction of membership in the Golden Legion of Phi Delta Theta, which honor came because of his membership In the fraternity for fifty years.

Following his graduation from Wabash, he entered Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, from which he was graduated in 1882.

Following his graduation he came to Franklin, where he married. May 24, 1882, Miss Eva Baldwin Payne, of this city, daughter of Leland Payne pioneer woolen mill owner.

He engaged in the practice of his profession in Johnson county until 1893, when he organized the Franklin Canning Company. This company was operated successfully until 1900, when the plant was sold to Grafton Johnson, Dr. Ott was the only one of the organizers retained in the transfer, and he was made president of the company, which position he filled until he retired from active business in 1912.

Dr. Ott was identified prominently with the business interests of Johnson county. He was one of the organizers of the Citizens National Bank of Franklin, and was for many Years a director. During the world war he was food administrator of this county. As leading figure in the American Canners Association, he served as an officer many years. He was a member and for several years a trustee of the First Presbyterian church here. He was one of the substantial members of the Masonic Lodge of this city, being a past master, having held all chairs in the Blue Lodge and the Knights Templar Commandery. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite and Shrine.

He is survived by his widow and three children. They are Rollin Ott and Miss Susannah Ott, of this city, and Mrs. Martha O. Pulliam, Lebanon, wife of Eugene Pulliam, Indiana, and Oklahoma newspaper publisher,

A sister and brother also survive. They are Isaac Ott and Mrs. Hannah Moore, both living at Rockville.
