Husband of Pearl M. Mackey. Son of Amos Leeds Latham and Sarah Elizabeth Gore.

Russell, Iowa
Thursday, January 19, 1950

James Curtis Latham, son of Amos and Sarah Elizabeth Latham, was born near Galesburg, Ill., on August 30, 1874, and departed this life on Saturday, January 7, 1950, at his home in Russell, Iowa, thus bringing to a close "A Beautiful Life."

On March 11, 1914, he was united in marriage to Pearl M. Mackey, also of Russell. The ceremony took place in Des Moines at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. C. E. Curtis, formerly of Chariton. After a three day honeymoon in the capitol city, they came to the present location in Russell and have made this their earthly dwelling place.

This is a sacred spot, for the deep things of life have happened unto us here making life sweet. Mr. Latham dearly loved the home life. He was of a quiet retiring nature, and to know him was to love him. He was a kind, loving husband and with his passing, earth will be poorer and heaven richer.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers and an only sister Ruth, whom he adored. Those remaining to mourn his departure are his beloved wife, Pearl, a brother, Harry, two nephews, Guy Latham Russell and Amos C. Standley of Yakima, Wash. and a host of friends.

He was a talented musician majoring in violin and piano, caring only for sacred songs. He loved to sing and need no book to remind him of the words. He had them down in his soul. He was a member of the Russell church orchestra for years, going from church to church in this ministry.

A solemn, sacred service, never to be forgotten, was conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Woodman Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald E. Skiles, of Grinnell, Iowa, who had been a friend of the Latham family the past seventeen years.
