Eldest of five sons and five daughters born to Venable Clayton Wales Hooper and Mary Ann Ware.
Grandson of Obediah Cyrus Hooper and Matilda Diadem Murdoch, Elias Newman Ware and Mary Ann Wiles.
Husband of Alla Katherine Poor, married 18 Nov 1903 in Merced County. Father of:
* Alice Kathryn Hooper, Mrs Andrew Jensen 1904–1991
* Benton Eugene Hooper Sr 1906–1990
After Alla died, Murdock remarried in 1928 to Elizabeth Emily Patton 1865-1944.

֎ The 1870 census lists Venable and Mary Ann, children Murdock, Emma and Edward, as well as Foss Hooper, all living on property worth $6k in the East Bear River area of Yuba county where her husband is a wheat farmer.
֎ During the 1880 census the family, consisting of Clayton and Mary, Murdock, Mary, Edward, Eugene, Linden, Vennie and Rose, all living in Merced. Children Foss, Frances and Clayton have all passed away at an early age.
֎ During the 1900 census, Edward, along with his brother Murdock, sister Mary Upton and her husband Albert and son Joseph, are all living in Snelling where the men are all farmers.
֎ The 1920 census lists widowed Murdock living at 118 Jessie Street in Castoria [Manteca?] with both his children, where is is a grain buyer at Power Grain Company.
֎ During the 1930 census, Murdock is still at 118 Jessie Street, with a wife, Elizabeth, son Benton, daughter-in-law Emily and granddaughter Billie R Hooper. The town is listed as Manteca, and Murdock is a superintendent at a canning company, his son is a farmer.
֎ Murdock and Elizabeth are retired and living in Castoria at 301 East North.

He has several obituaries, the one in the Modesto Bee mentions his sister, Mrs Rose Castle of Walnut Creek and Mrs Ethel Farrel of Berkeley.
