Stephen Farnsworth was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire at Fort #4 to Stephen & Eunice Hastings Farnswoth. Stephen was the youngest child born to my 5th great, grandparents. His birth is recorded in New Hampshire Charlestown Township Sullivan Co. Records...."Stephen, Son to Stephen & Eunice Farnsworth Born June ye 20th 1764" ; Saunderson's "History of Charlestown NH" p342 and several other records: "Farnsworth Memorial 2d ed." p 362, 363 & 365; Dana's Hist of Woodstock VT p133, 135-136;
Stehen first came to Woodstock VT probably about 1779 as he was approximately 15 at that time. They probably came up the Connecticut River and over west to the Woodstock area on a exploratory trip with his brothers Oliver (my 4th great, grandfather) and Jonathan. All settled there in 1782 in the village area now known as South Woodstock.
His marriage to Deborah Bennett is recorded in Woodstock VRs "Bk B, 1760-1851", p83; in Saunderson's "History of Charlestown NH" p342.
In 1809, Stephen Farnsworth, Jr. built the big brick house that later became the town farm. The house still stands on the splendid hillside overlooking the Green Mountain Horse Association farm.
He served as constable & twice as state representative.
Stephen Farnsworth,Jr. is buried with his mother Eunice Hastings Farnsworth, brothers and some of his children in the Morgan-Farnsworth Cemetery, 200 yds north of Fletcher Hill Road outside South Woodstock village.
