Mrs. Cora Miles Bennett- Friday, 20 October, 1916
Death of Mrs. S. C. Bennett. On Tuesday evening, October 17th, Mrs. Cora Miles Bennett died at the home of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Leonard Miles, after an illness of about two weeks.
Mrs. Bennett was 25 years of age at the time of her death and had with the exception of short period always resided in Baxley. She was a quiet, unassuming Christian lady who numbered her friends by her acquaintance. She had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church where she always took an active part in its work. She was married to Prof. S. Calvin Bennett a little over a year ago.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. T. Freeman assisted by Revs. G. N. Smith, W. J. Ballew and R. P. Fain. The remains were carried to Deen Cemetery Wednesday morning and there laid to rest.
Besides her husband Mrs. Bennett is survived by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Leonard Miles; three sisters, Mrs. Geo. Moody, of Bunnell, Fla., and Mrs. W. C. Parker and Mrs. J. W. Bohen of this place.
In their bereavement the relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
Cora Miles- Friday, 2 November, 1916
Gone to Be With Jesus. Cora Miles, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Miles, was 25 years of age and went home to be with Jesus on the 17th day of October,
1916. The grave is not the deepest sorrow. Her suffering was great but she bore it like one who knew the Lord. We know that it is hard for papa and mamma to do without little Cora but then we know that our loss is her eternal gain, and if we will only be true to Jesus we shall soon see little Cora again. If we could only push back the curtains today that hang between us and the heavenly land I am sure we could see little Cora Miles beckoning to papa and mamma to come on and be with her and the angels. We beg the Lord to sanctify this bereavement to the good of the souls of all the family.
I heard the voice of Jesus say, I am this dark world's light; look unto Me, they morn shall rise and all thy days be bright.
I looked to Jesus and I found in Him my star, my sun; and in that light of life I'll walk, till all my journey's done. G. N. Smith.
