A graveside service for Orville Albert Holmes of Willamina will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Green Crest Memorial Park, Sheridan.

Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home will be open for viewing from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Holmes died April 2, 1999, in Willamina. He was 85.

He was born March 2, 1914, in Springfield. He grew up on a homestead on the North Fork of the Smith River in Reedsport. He joined the Navy in 1942.

He and Laurel Ellen Huit were married July 12, 1944, in Dallas.

After completing his military service, he moved back to Reeds-port. Mr. Holmes was a logger, clearing land in Reedsport and North Bend. He also worked in road construction. He had lived in Willamina since 1966.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Kerry Holmes and Larry Holmes, both of Sheridan, and Denny Holmes and Orville Holmes, both of Pyatt, Ark.; three daughters, Shannon Carroll of Umpqua, Sharron Robinson of Days Creek and Lorvell Goss of La Pine; two sisters, Hazel Annttonen of Reedsport and June Crabb of North Bend; 39 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
