WILLIAM FELIX VANN, SR.
HEADLAND. . .William Felix (Bumps) Vann, Sr., a resident of Headland, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 18, 2009, at his home. He was 87.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2009, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Charles W. Price, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland Methodist Cemetery Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Vann was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late Samuel Richard Vann, Sr. and Emma Kate Solomon Vann. After graduation from the Henry County High School in Headland, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Vann was retired as the owner and operator of White & Vann Company, a men's and boys clothing store in Headland. He was an active member of the Headland United Methodist Church and the Curry Woods Men's Bible Class and served as chairman of the Headland Methodist Cemetery Committee for many years. Mr. Vann was preceded in death by his wife, Dot Wood Vann, two sisters, Edith Vann Espy and Emily Vann Ezzell and a brother, Jack Vann.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Dr. William F. (Bill) Vann, Jr., Chapel Hill, NC; Michael W. (Mike) Vann and wife, Janet B. Vann, Madison, MS; three sisters, Grace Vann Brannon and husband, Julian Brannon, Headland; Kate Helen Vann Luttrell and husband, Roy Luttrell, Columbus, GA; Mary Owens Vann Bryan and husband, Lee Bryan, Headland; two brothers, Sam R. Vann, Jr. and Dr. James W. Vann both of Headland; three grandchildren, Rachel A. Vann, Megan Wood Vann DeJong and husband, Shane DeJong and Stephen (Drew) Vann and many nieces and nephews.
