Harriet was the 5th child born to Luther Dean and Ruth (Brundage) Dean. Her father died 3 days following her 15th birthday. In the early 1850's she married Henry Devring in Wayne County, Michigan. For some time they resided in Vermontville, Eaton County before moving to Tekonsha, Calhoun County. Harriet and Henry had 10 children. Harriet's husband Henry died in Tekonsha February 3, 1894.
