Civil War: Company I, B, F&S, 1st California Infantry

Richard S. Barrett was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant at the Presidio of San Francisco August 16, 1861, and mustered into Company I, 1st California Infantry. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and appointed regimental quartermaster April 1, 1862, and transferred to Field & Staff. He was transferred to Company B June 28, 1862. 1st Lieutenant Barrett died at Fort Marcy, New Mexico Territory, December 17, 1863, and was buried in the post cemetery. His remains were reinterred here in July 1869. (Orton, pp. 335,341,372; Burial Register of Military Posts-Fort Marcy)
