Obituary from The New York Times, June 26, 1886:
"Col Benjamin F Bailey was buried from the Presbyterian Church at Ridgebury, Orange County, this afternoon. He died at the Presbyterian Hospital, New York, on Tuesday, where he had been taken for treatment, having been badly burned by falling upon a lighted candle which set his clothing on fire. Jonathan Bailey, grandfather of the deceased gentleman, was a soldier with Gen Washington at the battle of Long Island, retreated with him across the river, and was with him at the battle of White Plains. Col Bailey died at the age of 72 years. He was a prominent Republican and a gentleman much esteemed. The original deed of his farm at Ridgebury is dated March 4, 1777, when it was purchased by his grandfather, who then settled there, coming from Long Island."
