GALESBURG - Kevin A. "Cubby" Godsil, 88, of 383 E. Ferris died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 4, 1911, in Galesburg to William Henry and Ellen Mullen Godsil, he married Mary Chacon on Aug. 17, 1951, in Bogota, Colombia. She died Sept. 29, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by 11 brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are one stepson, Hugo Chacon of Miami; one stepdaughter, Gladys Sotomayor of Bogota; four stepgrandchildren; and more than 100 nieces and nephews.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1931 and retired in 1954. In 1942, he survived the Bataan Death March and was a prisoner of war for 42 months.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church in Galesburg. The Rev. Bruce King will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Watson Funeral Home, with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the World War II Memorial.
