Louie Thomas Pynes, 89, a retired USAF lieutenant colonel, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Col. Pynes was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Crosby, Ala. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, flying B-17, B-29 and B-52 aircraft. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1965.
After his retirement, he went to work for the U.S. Army as an instructor for helicopter pilots at Fort Rucker, Ala.
Survivors: Wife, June Arrington Pynes; twin brother, Dewey Pynes; sister-in-law, Betty Miner; nieces and nephews, Kathy Seija, Jerry Levins, Ronald, Keith and Gina Smith, Mark Miner, Susan Benson, Diane Miner and Renee Phares.
