The following memorial was published in the Saguache "Crescent," Thursday, January 25, 1917, p. 1, cols. 2-3.

Of Charles Wilbur Curtis, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Curtis, born Jan. 26, 1907, departed this life Jan. 17, 1917, aged 9 years, 11 months, 22 days.

Besides father and mother, he leaves to mourn him four brothers, James, Ralph, Fred and Glenn, and a host of friends.

Charles, a favorite of classmates, teachers and friends, attended school for the last time Friday, November 10, 1916. From this time the absence of this fine, reserved, unobtrusive little boy was keenly felt in the schoolroom and on the playgrounds by schoolmates and playmates. In all games he was both fair and conscientious thus living up to the spirit of 'fair play.'

Charles was punctual in attendance and conscientious in school work. He was considerate of the feelings of other people. His words to Classmates and friends were always polite and courteous.

Thus because of his fine, [fair] associations with his classmates, Charles became a blessing to them, and at last has left them invaluable, pleasant memories of the short time he has spent with them.

He was a loving and lovable son and had a smile for everybody. Those who knew him best loved him most. It is bitterly [grievous] to give up such a jewel, but while his parents feel their loss so bitterly, what a consolation that God called him while he was yet young, in all his tenderness and purity and transformed him into an heavenly angel.

The funeral services were conducted from the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Kern, after which the body was placed in the Saguache cemetery. Many of the friends showed their esteem and affection for him by their presence and by the profusion of flowers they scattered over and around the casket."
