As a young man Levi and his brothers helped their father carve a home out of the Ontario wilderness. In the book, ANNIS ANNALS, there can be found a tale of Levi being attacked by wolves one night while returning home. This event required him to spend the night in a tree until daylight. Levi was pressed into service during the War of 1812 for British Canada.
Levi was a talented wood carver and produced many useful and ornamental pieces of wooden ware, scoops, butter bowls, and ladles, which "occupied a prominent position in the museum of the York Pioneer and Historical Association at Sharon, and in the Canadian National Exhibiton" of 1931.
Having lived a life of hard and prosperous work, in his later years he donated the land that the Washington Methodist Church at Scarborough, Ontario is built upon. Levi and his wife are buried in this church cemetery.
The church still holds the original deed that was signed off by Levi Annis.
Rhoda Conant Annis was a seventh generation descendant of Roger Conant, who came to Plymouth, Massahusetts in 1623, settled in Salem, and became Governor of Salem in 1627.
