Lafayette "Lafe" Young Sr., 63, of 117 Lisbon St., died Monday at his home. He had been in failing health with cancer for several months.
Mr. Young worked in the kitchen at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for 29 years, retiring in 1984.
Born Nov. 2, 1936, in the town of Macomb, son of Ralph and Edna Bailey Young , he attended Morristown Central School and served in the Army Reserves from 1954 to 1982.
He married Barbara F. Henry on Nov. 24, 1956, in First Congregational Church, Lisbon, with the Rev. William Smithers officiating. After their marriage, the couple lived in Ogdensburg and then in 1970 moved to Mitchell Road, Heuvelton, where they lived until moving to Edwardsville Road, Edwardsville, in 1990. Mrs. Young died Nov. 21, 1994. Mr. Young moved to his Lisbon Street home in November.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are three sons, four daughters, his mother, his companion, two sisters, five brothers, 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A granddaughter died before him.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fox-McClellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Betty Masters officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
