Carl D. Young, 83, formerly of Dezell Road, Lisbon, died Friday at St. Joseph's Home.
Mr. Young was a farmer at Lisbon and a ward clerk at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center from 1970 until retiring in 1979.
Born May 28, 1923, at Gouverneur, son of Ransom and Della Barlow Young, he attended rural schools.
In 1940, he enlisted in the Army. He served in the 108th Company M Infantry during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Clara M. Mertz on Aug. 21, 1948, at Defuniak Springs, Fla. She died in 1999.
In earlier years, he was a ward clerk at Rockland County Psychiatric Center. In 1958, he moved to Lisbon, where he owned and operated the family farm on Dezell Road for many years in addition to working at the Sealtest milk plant until it closed.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Ogdensburg for many years.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, two sisters, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with military honors. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
