Walter A. "Monk" Wright, 88, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Home.
Mr. Wright was employed by J.J. Harvey Construction Co., Madrid, for a time and then transferred to Majeski & Masters Construction Co., where he worked on the Ogdensburg International Bridge construction project from 1954 to 1959. He then was maintenance supervisor engineer for the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority, retiring in 1971 after 13 years' service.
He moved to North Palm Beach, Fla., where he was employed at the Benjamin School as maintenance supervisor for several years and coached the golf and basketball teams.
Born Jan. 10, 1916, in Ogdensburg, son of George and Hannah Lum Wright, he attended Ogdensburg Free Academy and Manlius Military Academy and graduated in 1939 from Colgate University, Hamilton.
He married Doris L. Regan on Oct. 14, 1939, in Ogdensburg with the Rev. Herbert Hannan officiating.
He enjoyed golfing, playing in a pairs bowling league with his wife, and refereeing area games of football, basketball and baseball.
Surviving besides his wife are a son and two daughters, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Eleanor Craig, and a brother, William, died before him.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Foxwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Theodore Edwards officiating.
