John J. Woodward, 82, East Road, died Friday evening at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.
Mr. Woodward lived at his present home on East Road since 1950. He operated a dairy farm, worked in the construction field for a period of years, then worked at McCadam Cheese for three years and Heuvelton Whey Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was also assessor for the town of DePeyster for 12 years.
He was a member of the Paper Makers Union and was an avid Heuvelton Bulldogs and New York Yankees fan. He especially enjoyed his horses.
Born Oct. 11, 1921, in Antwerp, son of Charles J. and Beulah Minnick Woodward , he attended rural schools in Antwerp and Gouverneur.
He married Florence Wilson on Nov. 12, 1944, in Gouverneur.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons and two daughters-in-law, two daughters and a son-in-law, five grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Allen S., Charles W., Lawrence R. and Donald E., died before him.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Helen Hadley officiating. Entombment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
