The funeral for Charles F. Wilkinson, 72, formerly of 316 Lake St., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas T. Patterson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Wilkinson died at 9:55 p.m. Monday at the Skilled Nursing Facility at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, where he had been a resident since April. Prior to that, he had resided at the United Helpers Nursing Home since September 1989.
Surviving are a son, two grandsons and a cousin.
Born June 6, 1921, in Ogdensburg, son of Charles F. and Lena Wilkinson, he attended Ogdensburg schools and served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific campaign.
He married Dorothy Erwin May 8, 1948, in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Melville D. Nesbitt Jr., then pastor, officiating. The couple lived all their married life at 316 Lake St. Mrs. Wilkinson died Oct. 9, 1986.
Mr. Wilkinson was employed by the former Diamond International Paper Mill in Ogdensburg for 35 years, retiring when the business closed in 1978.
In July 1989, Mr. Wilkinson went to live with his son. He then entered the United Helpers Nursing Home in September 1989.
Mr. Wilkinson enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ogdensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2936.
