Susan Cone Slater was born September 11, 1833 in Bulloch County, Georgia, one of eleven children of James Cone and Mary Ann Smith Cone. She was the wife of John G. Slater. The twelve children of John G. Slater and Susan Cone Slater were Mary "Molly" A. Slater Smith, Martha "Mattie" A. Slater Crumley, Emma Susan Slater, Ida Slater Heidt, John E. Slater, James C. Slater, Alice Slater, Walter Arthur Slater, Thrza E. Slater, Ella L. Slater, Brantly Slater, and Missie Slater. Susan Cone Slater's great-grandfather was Revolutionary War hero Captain William Henry Cone. She was 70 years old when she died on March 4, 1904. She is buried at Old Fellowship Cemetery, near Ivanhoe (Briar Patch), Bulloch County. She was a lifelong member of Old Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. In her old age she was an invalid cared for by one of her daughters who lived in Cairo, Grady County, Georgia. I hope one of her descendents will add her photo to this site.
