Private, Company I, 43rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 1864-1865
Henry was born in Hesse-Darmstadt as "Heinrich", and often appears in U.S. military records as "DEITZ."
Henry (with his brother-in-law William Ward in the same Company and Regiment) served first in Wisconsin, then on to Tennessee, where his unit guarded railroads and Sherman's stores.
He drew an Invalid Pension (based on "hard service, cold, and exposure" in Tennessee) from 1885 until his 1910 death.
