James G. Ward, 65, Riverside Drive, retired recreational director for a developmental center, died Saturday morning in the intensive care unit at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital.
A prayer service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral, Rev. Everett Denesha and Rev. Paul Whitmore officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother, and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A sister, Mrs. Mary Jenkins, died several years ago.
He was born on July 25, 1923, in Pyrites, son of George and Dorothy St. Louis Ward . He was graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1942. A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy as a fireman first class.
Mr. Ward married Catherine H. Sharlow on July 11, 1945, in St. Ann's Church, San Diego, Calif. He retired in 1978 as the chief recreation director for the West Seneca Developmental Center, Orchard Park. He also worked as a recreational instructor at the St. Lawrence State Hospital in the 1950s. The couple returned to Ogdensburg after living for 16 years in Western New York.
