The son of Phillip & Elizabeth (Mitchell) Alcott, he married Susannah Heaton on May 8, 1698 in New Haven.

From Ken Smith:
John Allcot, or Alcock, as the name was then spelled, was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 14, 1765. He was the son of Phillip Alcock and Elizabeth Mitchell. On May 8, 1698 at New Haven, he took Susanna Heaton as his bride. Her parents were James Heaton and Sarah Street of New Haven. John & Elizabeth had six children, and lived on the estate he inherited from his father in New Haven. He also owned land in East Haven & Wallingford. John died in New Haven in March of 1772 and was buried in the churchyard of the Center Church on the Green. In 1813, a new church was built over many of the older graves and a tablet was placed in the vestibule of the church with the names of those burials engraved on it. In 1821, the remaining monuments were moved to the new burial ground.
