Bernard Allen Alfred
Funeral services for Bernard Allen Alfred, 81, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia with the Rev. Jeff Hoffman, pastor of First Baptist Church in Arcadia, and the Rev. Larry Joyner, pastor of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Arcadia Cemetery.
Mr. Alfred, a native of Haslam, Texas, and a resident of Arcadia for 40 years, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, after a short illness. He was a retired secretary of the Bienville Parish Police Jury, and was a member of First Baptist Church Arcadia, Arcadia Lions Club, and was an active supporter of Arcadia and the surrounding area. He was also a master Mason. In addition, he served proudly with the Eighth Army Air Corps as a bombardier stationed in England during World War II, flying 25 missions aboard his B-24, the "Linda Lou." He was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Louisiana Tech University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gene Woodard Alfred.
He is survived by his sons, Bernie Alfred of Seattle, Wash., and David Alfred and wife Janie of Destin, Fla.; granddaughter, Alison Alfred of Destin and grandson, Brian Alfred of Mesa, Ariz.; nephews Al Madden of Simsboro, Ray Madden of Ruston, and Gary Melanson of Shreveport.
Pallbearers were Al Madden, Ray Madden, Gary Melanson, Curtis McCrary, Doyle Gantt, and Guye Corley.
