A prayer service for Jacqueline J. "Jackie" Vernsey, 40, Route 2, will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McLellan Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Dennis Duprey officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Vernsey died Saturday afternoon in the emergency room of Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where she was taken after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at the Ogdensburg Free Academy-Morristown Section 10 basketball game at Potsdam State University College. An autopsy was scheduled today.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, a daughter, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Ogdensburg on Feb. 22, 1950, a daughter of Edmund and Helen Marshall Sargent, she was a 1968 graduate of St. Mary's Academy.
She married Robert J. Vernsey Dec. 28, 1968, at St. Mary's Cathedral.
Mrs. Vernsey was employed in the food service department of the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center. She and her husband also owned and operated R.J.'s Lounge in Ogdensburg. They had previously owned and operated the Brewery Restaurant and Discotheque.
Mrs. Vernsey was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral.
