Prominent American abolitionist, journalist, and social reformer. He became famous in the 1830's for his denunciations of slavery. He is best known as the editor of the radical abolitionist newspaper, The Liberator (1831-1865), helping to lead the successful abolitionist campaign against slavery in the United States, and as one of the founders of the American Anti-Slavery Society.
