He was 26 when the Revoluntionary War started in 1775. With his education and roles of leadership you would expect him to be an officer, but the only record found was T. W. White, private.
In 1764 he married Naomi Wood Wright. They had 11 children; 5 were born in New Braintree and 6 in Barnard. Naomi died in 1798. The following year, 1799, Thomas, 4 sons, a daughter and their families, 18 in the group migrated to the Northwest Territory. The place they settled became part of the stste of Ohio in 1803.
