CHICAGO, ILL. - Colin O. "Buck" Higgins, age 86, an attorney for more than 50 years in the Chicago metropolitan area, affectionately known as "The Senior Counselor on Cermark Road" a resident of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Berwyn, Naperville, Evanston and River Forest, Ill., died on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at St. Marys Hospital, Madison, from complications brought on by pneumonia. He was born in 1918, in Freeport, Ill. Colin was a graduate of Morton High School, Cicero, where he was an accomplished pole vaulter, and DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received his law degree in 1948 from Northwestern University Law School, Chicago, where he was affiliated with the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Attorney Higgins' thoroughness was unique. He was very proud of being admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, and was especially proud of helping less fortunate and vulnerable clients. Colin was a master mason, and a member of the Berwyn Masonic Lodge, the Irving and Belles Lettres, both literary organizations, and was a former member of River Forest Methodist Church. Colin also practiced law in Green Lake, where he had a home, and also had a farm in Montello. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Priscilla C. (Davies) Higgins of Chicago; three daughters, Frances (Paul) Kent, M.B.A., of Highland Park, Ill., Coleen C. (Paul Taylor) Higgins, J.D., L.L.M., Esq., of Madison, and Annie Higgins, Ph.D., of Williamsburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; two siblings, Allen B. "Bud" (Margaret) Higgins of Montague, Mich., and Anne (Chuck) Nelson of Annaplois, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. Colin was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Higgins, Ph.D.; his parents, Colin M. and Edith B. Higgins; and a brother, Bruce Higgins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at FRIEDRICH-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, Ill., with the Rev. Edgar L. Hiestand officiating. Interment will be in the Naperville Cemetery.
