The funeral for Gordon E. Souva, 75, of 43350 Route 37, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Gene M. Brown officiating.

Mr. Souva died Tuesday morning at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

In 1950 he joined the Navy, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving several awards and training new recruits at Great Lakes, Ill. He retired as a chief engineer officer in 1971 after 21 years of service. He then returned to Jefferson County, where he worked for Pete Giltz Implement Co., Crowley Foods, Hutchinson Boat Works, John Meyers Sr. and later for his son, John Meyers Jr. He had lived in Redwood for 27 years.

Mr. Souva enjoyed boating, fishing, sports, gardening, watching birds and deer, and playing cribbage with friends at Felder's Garage.

Born May 21, 1932, in Dexter, son of Alfred and Hazel Souva, he attended Black River and Dexter schools.

He married Jayne H. Boyer on March 17, 1951. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979. He married Avis J. Aldrich on April 19, 1980.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters and three sons-in-law, a son and his wife, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews.

A sister, Pauline House, and a brother, Robert, died before him.
