Geraldine M. "Jerry" Smith, 71, Morning Star Village, retired psychiatric therapy aide, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday in the operating room of A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, where she was taken after being stricken at home.
A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. John M. Demo, assistant pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and three brothers.
A sister, Norma Tucker, Long Island, died in 1982.
She was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of Robert L. and Helen F. Powers. She graduated from high school in Binghamton and was employed by American Airlines prior to her marriage.
She married Edward J. Smith Feb. 14, 1948, in New York City. The couple resided at 600 Elizabeth St. in Ogdensburg for many years.
Mrs. Smith was employed at the former Empsall's Department Store in Ogdensburg. She was a psychiatric therapy aide at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center from 1955 until 1980, when she retired.
Mrs. Smith was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral, a member of the Ladies' of the Elks and the "Happy Hookers" knitting club. She also was a member of the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital Auxiliary and had worked in the gift shop.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent winters in Florida since their retirement.
