Lloyd A. Smith, 78, of 620 Knox St., died Monday morning at his home. He had been in failing health for several years.
Mr. Smith was a painter in the maintenance department at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center from 1949 until 1977, when he retired because of ill health.
Born May 15, 1919, in Brockville, Ontario, son of Wilbert Manley and Margaret T. Fennell Smith , he was 1938 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army's military police from 1943 to 1946.
He married Margaret M. Doris on July 13, 1944, in St. Bridget's Church, Ottawa, with the Rev. J.B. Finn officiating. The couple had lived at their home on Knox Street since 1952.
Mr. Smith enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. He was a member of Ogdensburg American Legion Post 69 and Ogdensburg Masonic Lodge 128.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, four grandsons, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Reta Pearl, died in 1975, and two brothers, Wilbert Smith and George Ernest Smith , died in 1966 and 1973, respectively.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Foxwood Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Walter Smith , retired Congregational minister, officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
