Robert J. Smith, 76, of 1008 Pickering St., died Monday evening at Hepburn Medical Center, where he had been a patient since July 24.
Mr. Smith, a lifelong resident of Ogdensburg, was employed at Standard Shade Roller Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1986 as supervisor of quality control.
Born July 24, 1924, in Ogdensburg, son of James and Katheryn Young Smith , he attended Ogdensburg schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a surgical technician in the European Theater.
He married Betty Rogers on May 17, 1947, in St. Raphael's rectory, Heuvelton, with Monsignor Harold Martin officiating.
Mr. Smith was a member of Ogdensburg Elks Lodge 772 and a former member of the Ogdensburg Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating and the St. Lawrence River.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, two daughters, two sisters, three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Foxwood Mausoleum Chapel with Monsignor Harry Snow, pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Foxwood Memorial Park.
