Theresa M. Smith, 75, of 232 Washington St., died Thursday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Residential Health Care Facility, where she had resided for a short time.
Mrs. Smith was employed in the housekeeping department at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, now Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, for several years; worked at Woods Bag & Canvas Co. and the Coffee Pot Restaurant, and did housekeeping work for area families. She also was a foster parent to more than 150 children during a 15-year period.
Born Aug. 3, 1932, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Harry E. and Anna M. Walker Cooper, she attended schools at Star Lake and Ogdensburg. She married Robert H. Smith on March 15, 1951. Mrs. Smith enjoyed playing bingo and gambling.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons and their companions, three daughters and two sons-in-law, a sister and her husband, three brothers and a sister-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son, Charles E., a daughter-in-law, Angela M., and two brothers, Darrell H. Cooper Sr. and Harry P. Cooper, died before her.
The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with the Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park. C
