Irene M. Sibley, 71, of 4357 County Route 10, was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday evening at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, after being stricken ill at home.
Mrs. Sibley was DePeyster town clerk for four years, had worked for 16 years at Standard Shade Roller, Ogdensburg, and was employed at United Helpers Home Intermediate Care Facility 4 in Heuvelton from 1988 until her retirement in 1993.
Born May 20, 1930, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Erwin and Mabel E. Hynes Poore, she graduated from Heuvelton High School and married Seward A. Sibley on June 26, 1948, at St. Raphael's Church, Heuvelton, with the Rev. Harold Martin officiating.
She was a member of DePeyster United Methodist Church, where she had been financial secretary and Sunday school teacher; had been a 4-H leader and a member of Radio Emergency Associated Citizens Team.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, three daughters, two sisters, a brother, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Teresa Cutway, and a brother, Glendon Poore, died before her.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Foxwood Memorial Park Chapel, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Betty Masters officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
