John J. Sexstella, 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Kingston of Vermilion, following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 15, 1922, in Lorian, and was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Sexstella worked at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works for 37 years, retiring in 1983 as a substation operator.

He was a member and past president of the United Polish Club and Polish League of American Veterans Post 38; and a member of AMVETS Post 47 and PACC, and of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, both in Lorain. He was a fast-pitch softball umpire for men's leagues in Lorain and enjoyed the Cleveland Indians, bowling and bingo.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 456th Motor Ambulance Company in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central France.

Survivors include his sons John A. Sexstella of Goldsboro, N.C., Robert F. Sextella of Lorain and Thomas A. and Kenneth J. Sexstella, both of Vermilion; brother, Walter Sexstella of Lorain; his companion of 26 years, Gisele Contini; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (nee Yeager), in 1979; his parents Augustine and Mary (nee Jakubowski) Sextella; and brothers Frank, Joseph and Theodore.
