Birth: 1765
Death: unknown
Glen Head
Nassau County
New York, USA

I believe, but cannot prove, that this is the grave of Jordan Hopkins born 1765 and still living at age 85 in the 1850 U.S. Census. He was the freed (in 1807) black slave of William Hopkins 1729-1810 and his wife Rachel (Coles) Hopkins, who took the surname of Hopkins as his last name and continued living and working on the Hopkins Farm on Cedar Swamp Rd. & High Farms Rd. Glen Head, Long Island, NY.
Also listed in the 1850 U.S. Census was Jordan's son Silas Hopkins born 1800 and wife Rosetta Hopkins born 1805. Five children were listed for Silas & Rosetta; Charity, female born 1828, Samuel born 1831, Cathan, female born 1835, Isaac 1840 and Henry 1844. Isaac died Mar 28, 1903 and is buried in the Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery in Nassau Co., L.I., NY.
