John C. Roach, 74, of 927 Jay St., Army veteran of World War II and retired carpenter, died Tuesday evening at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 24.
A prayer service will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. John J. Cosmic officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; two granddaughters; two brothers, a sister, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son, Gary A., died July 28, 1990. A sister, Eleanor Monpetite, and a brother, Harold, also died previously.
He was born Feb. 26, 1917 in Ogdensburg, a son of Lester and Gladys Haggerty Roach . He attended Ogdensburg schools and married Florence Rivers Aug. 31, 1940 at Notre Dame Church.
Mr. Roach served in the Army during World War II, seeing duty with the 42nd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron.
After his discharge, he was employed at the John's-Manville Insulating Co. in Ogdensburg as a carpenter and insulator. The company became the Wight-Walker Co. in 1968 and he continued his employment there until his retirement in 1973, due to failing health.
Mr. Roach was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral and a member of the Ogdensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts.
