Charles D. Gartmann, 68, of Antigo died Mon. at St. Joseph Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
Mr. Gartmann was born Mar. 8, 1921 in Fennimore, a son of the late Charles and Riva Gartmann. He married Alvera Hunt Aug. 18, 1944 in Tracy CA. She survives.
He spent is youth in Ringle, where his parents operated a cheese factory. He later lived in Cudahy prior to his military service.
Mr. Gartmann served in the US Army from June 23, 1942 until Jan. 26, 1946. He attained the rank of corporal in the infantry division.
After his military service, Mr. Gartmann was employed as a machinist by the Ladish Drop Forge Company in South Milwaukee. He moved to Summit Lake in 1967, where he operated a restaurant and coffee shop. He relocated to Antigo after his retirement in 1978.
Mr. Gartmann was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Antigo and the Elcho American Legion post.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons; two daughters; four brothers; five sisters; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother [Harold].
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Sat. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep will officiate with entombment in the Queen of Peace mausoleum. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Fri. at McCandless-Zobel and Bradley Funeral Home. The Elcho American Legion post will conduct military rites following the Mass on Sat.
