Lt.Ralph C.Simmons,a native of Fairforest who previously had been reported missing in action as of the date of Corregidor's fall, is now known to be dead, the War Department has announced. in a letter to Lt.Simmons sister,
Mrs.Alma Cathcart of Spartanburg route 3, the Adjutant General said he died in a Japanese Prison Camp on July-29-1942 more then 3 years ago-of Cerebral Malaria. Regret was expressed at the "unavordable Circumstances which made necessary the unusual lapse of time" in
reporting the death. no other details were given.

A Veteran infantryman,
Lt.Simmons had been in service 17 years at the time of his Capture. survivors include 3 sisters, Mrs.Cathcart, Mrs.W.W.Henry of Spartanburg route 6, and Mrs.A.F. McBride
of Inman route 5; a brother, PFC,L.P.Simmons in service overseas; 4 half brothers Jesse D., William,
J.C. and Charlie Simmons all of Spartanburg. and 2 half-sisters Mrs.Myrtle Senter and Mrs.Beulah Reiser of Denver,Colo.

Lt. Ralph Simmons

The body of 2d Lt,Ralph C. Simmons 32 of Fairforest who died July 29,1942 in a Japanese Prison Camp was
returned to Spartanburg for reburial. He was born at Fairforest a son of of the the late J.H.and Annie Fleming
Simmons. He was a infantryman. The Military funeral will be held at the graveside Friday afternoon at 3 with
Chaplain Boyce Coates in Charge.
Soldiers from Fort Jackson will also take part in the service. The body will be at the Mortuary until the
service. surviving are 5 sisters Mrs.E.M.Cathcart of Route 3,Mrs.W.W.Harvey of Route 7, Mrs.A.F.McBride of Inman
Mrs,Myrtle McSwain of Gastonia NC, Mrs.Beulah Reiser of Denver Colo,and 5 brothers Lewis P, of Moore Route 1,
Jesse D. of Route 7, William of Route 3, J.C. of Route 3, and Charlie Simmons of Gaffney.
