Ruth Ferdinand, 87, artist lived in W'port since '44

Ruth Ferdinand, 87, of Greensburg died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday

Mrs. Ferdinand worked for Anderson Grocery and Bewley Bakery and had been a Westport area resident since 1944. She was an artist, and enjoyed doing crafts and cooking.

Born Jan. 16, 1920, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Gus and Bessie Gallamore Miles. She married Ed Ferdinand on Oct. 24, 1936, in Vernon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters Charlotte Ogle of Greensburg and Edie Middendorf of Westport; a sister, Mildred Poole of Vernon; a brother, Tom Miles of North Vernon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry Miles and Kenneth "Doc" Miles; and three sisters, Elizabeth Earle, Minnie Hempstead and Edith Laughridge.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Ferdinand had lived in the Westport area since 1944 and was a former employee of Anderson Grocery and Bewley Bakery. She was an artist and enjoyed doing crafts and cooking.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
