Walter Alton "Andy" Andrews, 88, died peacefully at Mariner Health Nursing Home in Wilmington on Thursday, February 17, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on October 2, 1916 to the late Walter J. and Effie Falk Andrews.

Andy was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edna East Andrews who passed away on February 17, 2002.

Andy and Edna were former residents of Carolina Beach, Williamston and lastly of Washington NC were they lived for 33 years. Andy was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington where he served his church, his community and His Lord. He loved gardening, visiting with his friends and his neighbors and His Lord, Jesus Christ. Andy taught auto mechanics at Martin Community College and at Beaufort Community College until he retired.

He is survived by three daughters, Lois and husband, Kirby Hinson of Wilmington, Linda and husband, Jerry Smith of Smithfield, Patsy and husband, Jim Whitfield of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. A sister, Ruby Robinson of Mt. Gilead and a brother, Tony Andrews of Biscoe, also survives him.
