Husband of Ida Hall; father of (Infant unknown)..Ollie,Clarence,Lue,Marvin,Herman,Jim,
Laura...also Mary(who burned to death when she was a child),Arthur,Odell, and Sammy, who all died very young.
I remember my Grandpa as a rather stern man, not so much by what he said, but what he DIDN'T say. I remember him sitting in his rocking chair...and pinching the kids with his toes as they went past him into the kitchen. (It didn't take me long to figure out that the thing to do was RUN!)
He and Grandma almost never went anywhere, but I do recall that they were at our house for dinner once (I was a teen) and I was watching an old movie on TV (he had never seen one.) He started watching with me, and was full of questions about how the picture got in the "box" and others that I couldn't answer. When we were called for dinner, he wanted to know if the picture would stop 'til we got back.
(I guess that's the type of thing that caused someone to invent the VCR!) He really enjoyed that old movie that wasn't even interesting to me!
One 4th of July everyone gathered and went for a picnic and swimming. They put Grandma & Grandpa's rocking chairs in the back of a big farm truck (along with kids and other stuff)and took them with us. Of course they sat contentedly in the shade just watching all the fun...but it is one of the best memories I have with my Dad's family!
