Richard (Dick) Cook, 82, of Blakesburg, Iowa, passed from this life on June 6, 2009, at the Columbia Medical Center in Columbia, Mo., while at his vacation home at Lake of the Ozarks.
Dick was born to Omah and Daisy Davis Cook in College Springs, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1944. After graduation, Dick enlisted in the USAF and was an aerial photographer and instructor.After Dick's service commitment, he attended Central College in Pella and upon graduation was asked to join the admission department at Central. College administration remained his life's work.Dick gave of himself to so many good causes, some of which are: The Advisory Board of Good Samaritan, local and state officer in the Methodist Church, Past President of Lions Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones recognition, Past President of American Association of College Admission Counselors and was active in community development and beautification activities. One of Dick's great joys was the ability to share his baritone voice with many different groups while his wife, Barbara, accompanied him on the piano.Dick had many hobbies — photography, hunting, fishing, hiking, traveling and spending time at the family home at Lake of the Ozarks.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; his two sons, Jay (Linda) of DePere, Wisc., and Jon of Urbandale. He has two grandchildren, Amy and David Cook.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Blakesburg with Rev. Jim Matheney and Pastor Peg Egbert officiating.
